Hertford Heath School forms a central part of the village, both in its location and its influence on the community. It is pleasantly located, has a large playing field, wooded areas and a wildlife area in addition to junior and infant playgrounds.
The school is conveniently placed and attracts children from a wide area. It is a happy lively school in which children are encouraged to take pride, care and interest in every aspect of school life. We have a strong link with the village playgroup ensuring a gentle introduction for our youngsters into the school environment. The playgroup occupy our nursery on four afternoons each week Monday to Thursday inclusive. There are approximately 158 pupils and 24 children in the Nursery. There are 8 classrooms, a library, an information communication technology (ICT) suite, a large resources room with a cookery area and a main hall which is used for assembly, PE, drama and dining room. Meals are cooked and served on the premises but children may bring packed lunches if preferred. All the foundation subjects are taught – art, history, geography, PE, music, design technology (DT) and RE. The use of computers is increasingly encouraged as part of school life. Extra-curricular activities include drama, music, art, football, netball, ICT and small games activities
The school is a happy, caring and successful community. Parents are positively encouraged to take an active part in the education of their children and play an important role in the day to day life of the school, helping with reading, cooking, crafts, transport etc.
The school has a very valuable and active PTA, called “The Friends”, who organise the school fete, Christmas bazaar and various social events to involve all the family and provide additional funds.
The school aims to develop children’s physical skills, enhance self awareness, improve health and fitness encouraging pleasure in physical activity. This includes Swimming, Football, Netball and Athletics to name a few.
Extracts from our mission statement:
- “We want our children to feel happy, secure and confident in our school.”
- “To show care and respect for others.”
- “To learn independence and to be able to take responsibility for themselves and their work.”
- “To experience the satisfaction of team work and individual achievement.”
- “We aim to try to ensure equal access to the curriculum and resources.”
- “We expect high standards of quality in the children’s work.”
It is our intention that children leave us with the literacy and numeracy skills fundamental to their future development. More than that we hope to have aroused their curiosity and taught them how to find out what they want to know. We endeavour to encourage achievement in all aspects of the school curriculum and provide a happy, caring and constructive base upon which their future education may be built.
